In my definition ‘ the dew drop moment’ is when, in purest form as the nature does its work, the moon shines, the sun rises and the dew drops..its a fleeting moment.. in the moment due. The Officer’s and Ladies are gathered, fitted in for the frame size, all set and ready for the group photograph which is standard format of a front line seated and 2 standing rows behind. Gen Rawat accompanied by Lt. Gen Yadava arrives to take his assigned place and out of the 2 chairs designated now only one is available. The other has been occupied with regimented belonging intent a la dtc ( delhi bus travellers would know); Gen Rawat assesses situation superfast, requests Gen Yadava to take that chair meant for him and Lt. Gen Yadava politely declines and smilingly looks to find space. Gen Rawat, uncomfortable, yet softly urges Lt. Gen Yadava to join in the standing row and just states under breath that let him pass to come right behind his chair in the first standing row. Lt. Gen Yadava, smilingly, walks in the passage provided by shoulder to shoulder ready for photo catch moment and stands behind the CDS’s chair. Gen Rawat stands up, turns around, holds Lt. Gen Yadava’s hand and vacating his seated place, offers his chair to him. While doing this, Gen Rawat, decisively aligned to sit on the carpet floor where Kiranti Officer’s and Ladies had already taken places. In this precise moment before CDS India could actually sit down on the floor, Lt. Gen Yadava made a move which saved us all. Lt. Gen Yadava, did not let Gen Rawat sit. He used both of his military strengthened arms and virtually lifting the in process CDS to sit on floor withheld the CDS from sitting on the ground. Firmly, ever smiling Lt. Gen Yadava made Gen Rawat sit on his assigned chair and the photograph was taken. From start to finish whole episode time taken 30 odd seconds.
I was standing on side, in this lovely, sunny wintery afternoon, witnessing, experiencing relishing dignity, love, respect, harmony, trust, discretion, politeness, military tradition, regimentation, protocol, friendship, comaraderi, India’s rich culture & heritage on display at the highest level. To melodify the moment, the regimental band played as if needed on a destined cue. The whole incident is emotionally intense and yet and so sublime in its fluidity. The irony that this is history in making, my respect and regard for the two men, enhanced manifold and I salute the two great generals.
Both of you Gen Rawat and Lt. Gen Yadava saved the day and made the day.
